Billing & Plans
HetGuard offers a free tier and three paid plans. All billing is handled securely through Stripe. You can upgrade, downgrade, or cancel at any time from the Billing page inside the app.
Plans
- Free — 1 active schedule. No credit card required.
- Starter ($9/mo) — 5 active schedules, all retention policies, email / Slack / Discord notifications.
- Pro ($29/mo) — 20 active schedules, all retention policies, 50 GB managed storage, priority support.
- Agency ($79/mo) — 100 active schedules, all retention policies, 200 GB managed storage, dedicated support.
Annual billing is available on all paid plans at a 17% discount. See the pricing page for current rates.
Changing Your Plan
Go to Billing in the left sidebar and click Change Plan on the plan you want to switch to.
- Upgrading takes effect immediately. You are charged a prorated amount for the remainder of your current billing period.
- Downgrading takes effect at the end of your current billing period. Your current plan remains active until then.
If you downgrade to a plan with fewer schedules than you currently have active, schedules over the limit will be paused automatically. You can choose which ones to keep active.
Managing Payment Methods
Click Manage billing on the Billing page to open the Stripe Customer Portal. From there you can:
- Update your credit or debit card.
- View and download past invoices.
- Update your billing address.
HetGuard never stores your card details — all payment information is handled directly by Stripe.
Invoices and Receipts
An email receipt is sent automatically after each successful charge. You can also access all past invoices in the Stripe Customer Portal via the Manage billing button on the Billing page.
Cancelling Your Subscription
You can cancel at any time from the Stripe Customer Portal (Billing → Manage billing → Cancel plan). When you cancel:
- Your paid plan remains active until the end of the current billing period.
- At the end of the period your account reverts to the Free plan (1 active schedule).
- Schedules over the free plan limit are paused — no data is deleted.
- Your existing Hetzner snapshots are unaffected.

Managed Storage
Pro and Agency plans include HetGuard managed storage — a dedicated Backblaze B2 bucket provisioned automatically for your account. You can use it as the storage provider for any volume or database backup job with no configuration required.
- Pro — 50 GB included
- Agency — 200 GB included
Current usage is shown on the Billing page with a progress bar. If usage approaches the limit, HetGuard displays an amber warning. At 100% capacity, new backups to managed storage will fail until old files are removed or you upgrade your plan.
Managed storage is provisioned automatically when you first visit the Billing page after upgrading. It also appears as a storage option on the Storage page and can be selected when creating a backup job. See Storage Providers for more details.
Free Plan Limits
The free plan is available indefinitely and includes:
- 1 active backup schedule
- Server snapshot jobs only
- Daily snapshot frequency
- Up to 7 snapshots retained
No credit card is required to use the free plan.
